Rev. Dr. Mary Whitney
I am the Equity & Cultural Liaison, Restorative Practice and Trauma Coach for Paladin Career and Technical High School in Blaine, MN. I have worked with them for over 12 years. I’ve helped to train our staff in keeping circles and building strong relationships amongst ourselves and the youth we serve. As one who was trained to keep circles by Ms. Alice Lynch and Gwen I have practiced and consider myself an expert in the field. Some of the work I’ve done has been with Minnesota Departent of Education as a circle keeper, a volunteer victim offender dialogue facilitator for the Department of Corrections over 14 years. Other trainings include teaching circles and trauma practices and techniques for the MN Department of Human Services Trauma Unit, starting a youth circle for Seward Neighborhood Services within the parks. My work has even been done nationally in the areas of training others to practice keeping circles.
I have used circles in these contexts:
Trauma & Healing
Adult education practices
Sex and Human Trafficking
I have worked with BIHA, the Minnesota Department of Education, the Minnesota Science Museum, the Minnesota Department of Corrections, and NJEA.
Areas of Interest and Service
Trauma and Healing
Life Transformation Coaching
Healthy Relationships and Domestic Violence
I’m Reverend Dr. Mary Whitney, expert circle keeper and author of four books. A lot of the work I do is as a trained Equity & Cultural Liaison, Trauma and Restorative Practices Coach working with youth and adults in the area of education. I advocate for the lives of women who have suffered sexual, emotional, and physical abuse. As you may know, providing quality content is critical to successful re-entry back into community and healthy living. Many organizations rely on external speakers and educators such as myself to help guide them through the process of keeping circles. I see circles as a way of life, not just a practice.
