Ann Marie Coglianese
Circle Experience
I have worked at Rise Up Academy for 5 years doing RJ Circles on all three tiers. We have had training by Susan Sharpe from Notre Dame and Kay Pranis. We have purchased several books from Living Justice Press that we have read together as a faculty and staff. I am currently the RJ coordinator in the school and working on the District implementation team. I have also done several Professional Development sessions with teachers on Circles in their classrooms.
I have experience with all three tiers. My strength is in the third tier since I am a licensed counselor with a masters degree in Psychological Services, but I have been involved in all three tiers. I work daily with students and teachers on tier two Circles to resolve minor classroom disruptions. I have also led and written many Circles for teacher/staff meetings at our school and others in the corporation.
I have worked with teachers, students and administrators. I have trained teachers in South Bend and Chicago. I have worked with Notre Dame students at our school and IUSB interns.
Areas of Interest and Service
I am available to help with Circle practice in any needed situation. We have community Circles in every class twice a week at Rise Up, and I helped implement and sustain that practice here. I facilitate student re-entry Circles, teacher conflict Circles, grief Circles, value Circles, training Circles, talking Circles, family conflict Circles and staff Circles. (Any topic really!)
Bio
I am a licensed school counselor and also have a masters degree in psychological services. I was introduced to RJ and Circle practice 6 years ago by Susan Sharpe. We began the Circle process the following year and have slowly shifted the culture of our school. Our work has been instrumental in energizing the district forward with interest in implementing Circles and RJ practices into every school. I am passionate about Circle practice and its natural ability to give equal voice to all. Our school was the only school in the district last year to not show racial disparity in discipline. I have led this movement in our school despite that fact that our administration has been half heartedly committed. My heart is truly in Circle practice and the RJ movement in schools.
